118 Bars Of SLC On The Wall, 118 Bars…
Meat Market
#64 Liquid Joe’s
Aug 2nd
Marv Says: A live music venue that has a good regular lineup and touring groups and small local acts. A well stocked bar will keep you in your chosen libations. A couple of pool tables are available if you want to shoot some stick while listening to the likes of The Metal Gods, The Spazmatics, Bootiequake or others. It’s a very solid live music venue featuring a large dance floor. Hookahs are also apparently available. Much nicer now that you don’t need a membership to gain entry. Expect cover charges for all of the live music.

#25 The Sky Bar
Mar 13th
Marv Says:
Located atop the Red Lion hotel in the south part of Downtown SLC, The Sky Bar is one of those places that I have always wondered how well I would like. I never bothered to go there for various reasons, but was happy to give it a shot. I figured that at the very least, I would enjoy the view from atop the hotel. Boy was I surprised. The bar is neatly sectioned into various areas with a dance floor, seating for those not wishing to stand, and the land beyond the velvet rope which was closed off for this evening. The bartenders and waitstaff were top notch and very fun to hang around with and shoot the shit. The numbered name tags were but a door to open as we spoke with the staff. A thoroughly enjoyable experience, and a great view of the valley. I was given a glass of excellent Ravenswood Zin after recommending it to a fellow patron, I also enjoyed the citrus collins that was on the bar drink menu (so much so I ordered two). I finished off the evening with an Evolution Ale.

In years past I have avoided this bar thinking only that it was a un-tss, un-tss dance club, being forced to visit it has made me regret that decision to avoid it. Now this place has a good dance floor with a decent DJ but since that isn’t my scene, I brought our valiant team of researchers to a nice little quiet bar on the side, with good service and great bartenders, this little space was an excellent retreat from the dance music. Excellent views of the eastern lights and a good selection of couches complete that little side-bar sanctuary. My preconceived notions of this bar have been shattered and for sure I will make a return visit some day, I would recommend this bar as an excellent place for people who want to get their dance on with the option to get a break from the un-tss, un-tss the dance club is normally filled with.
Edited to add, at some point we had flaming dr peppers.

#5 – Green Street
Jan 16th
Rawb Says:
While there was a cover band there slaughtering many of the great songs of people much older than my youth I still enjoyed myself. The bar was pretty surrounded by people and it was a bit tough trying to get a drink, fortunately my zebra print shirt allowed me to part someone from their seat long enough to get something ordered. The general feel here is all about the younger collage student with no particular style. Strangely, it seemed to favor having more women there than men.

A $5 cover is hardly bad, but it’s only charged to dudes. This is apparently the status quo at this club. Dance floor upstairs, bro bar down. I enjoyed my Maker’s with Redbull to round out an evening out on the town.

#2 – Bliss
Jan 16th
Rawb Says:
While dance clubs aren’t typically my thing strangely enough dance clubs on gay night turn out to also not be my thing. In a desperate attempt to wake up I managed to squeeze up to the bar and ordered an overpriced vodka and redbull (are you sensing a trend?). Feeling slightly defeated that no one there bought me a drink, I turned tail and headed out soon enough.
Marv Says:
Saturday nights are Gay Night at Bliss. The cover charge was reasonable at $5. Seems to be pretty common to have that charge at dance clubs. I got a quick Vodka and Redbull and had to leave nearly immediately to escort Lacey from the hotel party she was attending to our next venue. The building is the old Vortex/Splash/The Bay, so don’t expect a lot. Still a great building, and still no good tenants. Expect a young crowd any time you visit.
